How to install Chrome OS Flex on an old iMac, Macbook Air and Macbook Pro

• 8GB or more USB drive
• Google Chrome Browser

Step 1: Download Google Chrome

Google Chrome will serve as a recovery utility and will aid to create a USB installer. If you already have Google Chrome installed, skip this step.

Step 2: Install Chromebook Recovery Utility 

Open the Chrome Web store and search for the Chromebook Recovery Utility. Once it appears, install it. Here’s a direct link to the extension.

Step 3: Create a USB installer

Click on the extension icon and select Chromebook Recovery Utility.

Once the extension loads, click get started.

Click “Select a model from a list.“

Select Google Chrome OS Flex as a manufacturer and Chrome OS Flex as a product and click continue.

Select USB drive, and click continue

The program will warn you that the USB will be erased, so back up any important date. The next step is to click Create now.

Chrome OS will then be downloaded and a bootable flash drive will be created.

Step 4: Install Chrome OS Flex

Restart your Mac and hold the option button. If you’re on an iMac and using a third-party keyboard, hold the alt button. Once the menu appears, select the USB flash drive and follow the instructions to install Chrome OS Flex.
